What does the hoverboard red light error mean?

All hoverboards have a fault system that is indicated by a flashing red light located in the middle of the board. This red light will tell you what is wrong with your hoverboard by blinking in a certain sequence.

It means that any technician can identify the exact nature of a hoverboard fault, by reading the sequence that the red light flashes in.

When you see a flashing red light in the middle of your hoverboard and it is shaped like a circle, something has gone wrong.

This is what the flashing red light means:

Red light flashes once – this indicates that there is a false connection somewhere in your hoverboard. You should ideally ask an expert to take a look, but if you feel confident enough, you can disconnect all the hoverboard connections and then, connect them back up again, checking for anything that has come loose. Pay close attention to the main board. If this doesn’t work, you may need a new motherboard.

Red lights flash twice – this tells you that there is a problem with the hoverboard sensors and you may find that the hoverboard doesn’t balance well. It might also start beeping too. Don’t try and fix this problem yourself, consult the manufacturers or go to an expert.

Red lights flash three times – again, this shows a problem with the sensors and you may find that the hoverboard will be lopsided.

Red lights flash four times – this happens when there’s a problem with the internal motor on the motherboard side. You may need a new one – motors come assembled within a new wheel.

Red lights flash five times – again, this is a motor problem, this time, on the side of the battery. A new motor is recommended.

Red lights flash six times – if you have a red light that flashes six times, then you have a battery problem. It could be that the battery management system is faulty or there’s a problem with the circuit board. You probably need a new battery.

Red lights flash seven times – your gyroscopes have an issue on the battery side. You could either buy new ones, or a full circuit board replacement kit.

Red lights flash eight times – the gyroscopes on the motherboard side have an issue. Check to see that the socket is plugged in properly.

Red lights flash nine times – don’t panic as this is just a sign that you turned your hoverboard on while it was upside down. It doesn’t mean there is a fault. Turn it the right way up and you’ll be sorted.
